Reiki Level 1 Initiate Course Lesson 6 – The Reiki Power Symbol: Cho Ku Rei

In Reiki practice, symbols are essential in directing and amplifying the flow of universal life force energy.

Cho Ku Rei, the power symbol, is one of the most commonly used and versatile Reiki symbols. Its primary purpose is to increase or decrease energy as needed, providing protection, clearing negative energy, and enhancing healing.

This section introduces the Cho Ku Rei symbol, explains its uses in Reiki practice, and offers a step-by-step guide on how to draw and invoke its energy.

Cho Ku Rei (pronounced “cho koo ray”) is often referred to as the “Power Symbol” because of its ability to amplify energy. Its meaning can be interpreted as “place the power of the universe here” or “God is here”.

The symbol looks like a spiral or coil and represents the unification of spirit and matter, with energy spiraling from the universe into the physical world.

Cho Ku Rei works by boosting the flow of Reiki energy, making it stronger and more focused. It can be used to clear and protect spaces, enhance healing treatments, or direct energy to specific areas of the body.

Practitioners often use Cho Ku Rei in various aspects of their Reiki practice to ensure that energy flows where it’s needed most.

How to Use Cho Ku Rei for Protection and Energy Amplification

Cho Ku Rei has multiple applications, depending on the situation and your intentions. Here are some key ways to use this powerful symbol:

  1. Amplifying Reiki Energy: In a Reiki treatment, Cho Ku Rei can be used to increase energy flow into a specific part of the body or throughout the entire treatment. This is particularly helpful when working on areas with deep-seated blockages or when you feel that additional energy is required for healing.
  2. Sealing and Protecting Energy: After giving a Reiki treatment, Cho Ku Rei can be used to “seal” the energy in place, ensuring that the healing process continues long after the session has ended. It can also be drawn in the air to protect yourself, your clients, or a physical space from negative influences or energy imbalances.
  3. Clearing and Purifying Spaces: Cho Ku Rei can be used to cleanse and purify your home, work environment, or any space where energy feels stagnant or negative. By drawing the symbol and setting the intention to clear the space, you can help release unwanted energy and create a more harmonious environment.
  4. Charging and Protecting Objects: You can use Cho Ku Rei to charge items with positive energy or protect them from absorbing negative vibrations. For example, crystals, healing tools, or personal items can be energized by visualizing Cho Ku Rei over them.
  5. Grounding and Centering: When you feel ungrounded or scattered, using Cho Ku Rei can help you reconnect with the earth’s energy and center yourself. By focusing on the symbol and its energy, you can stabilize your own energy field and feel more grounded.

Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing and Invoking Its Energy

Using Cho Ku Rei requires both the physical act of drawing the symbol and the mental intention to direct its energy. Below is a simple guide to help you draw and invoke the power of Cho Ku Rei:

  1. Visualize the Symbol: Start by visualizing the Cho Ku Rei symbol in your mind’s eye. Imagine a horizontal line at the top with a spiral that loops downward and to the left, similar to a clockwise coil. This visualization will help you draw the symbol with more clarity and intention.
  2. Draw the Symbol:
    • Raise your dominant hand and, using your index and middle fingers, trace the shape of Cho Ku Rei in the air or directly over the area you wish to affect.
    • Begin with a straight horizontal line from left to right.
    • Next, draw the spiral starting from the top of the line, looping three times downwards in a clockwise direction until you return to the base of the line

  1. Invoke Its Energy:
    • As you draw the symbol, either silently or aloud, say its name: “Cho Ku Rei”. The vibration of the words helps activate the energy of the symbol.
    • While speaking the name, focus on your intention. Whether you are amplifying energy, protecting a space, or healing a specific area, ensure that your intention is clear. For example, if you are using Cho Ku Rei to increase energy in a healing session, mentally repeat, “I increase the flow of energy here.”
    • Once the symbol is drawn and the intention is set, trust that the energy is being directed where it’s needed.
  2. Feel the Energy:
    • After invoking the symbol, take a moment to sense the shift in energy. You may feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of lightness, indicating that Cho Ku Rei is working. Trust your intuition and be receptive to the energy flow.
  3. Repeat as Necessary:
    • You can draw and invoke Cho Ku Rei as often as needed during a Reiki session or throughout your day. Whenever you feel that energy needs to be enhanced, protected, or redirected, use this symbol to support your intention.

Cho Ku Rei is a powerful tool in your Reiki practice, offering limitless ways to amplify, direct, and protect energy.

As with all symbols, the effectiveness of Cho Ku Rei is heightened by your intention, focus, and practice.

By incorporating this symbol into your treatments and daily life, you can strengthen your connection to universal life force energy and create deeper, more effective healing experiences for yourself and others.
