When I write Charlie Schock, I always think about the fine line she walks between logic and emotion. She’s a forensic psychologist and former FBI profiler who thrives on control. She’s meticulous, polished, and laser-focused on justice.
But put her in the middle of a case that tangles her professional life with her personal one and that control starts to slip.

In 4th Silence, Charlie’s boyfriend is still JJ Carrington, the District Attorney, her mother is leading protests to reopen a decades-old murder investigation, and her sister Meg is spinning out about a proposal (I can’t say more without giving away a big plot point!)
The tension is thick, and Charlie’s caught between loyalty, love, and the need to find the truth—no matter who it hurts.
Including herself.
Writing this character involves a lot of deep research on my part into forensic psychology. I have to get the details as accurate as possible. I also have to walk that fine line with Charlie between logic and emotion.
At the end of the day, she’s a tough cookie with a soft center, especially when it comes to those she loves. She tolerates a lot from her mom and others because she understands their motivations go far deeper than the surface.
